Coconino’s rangers are also finding new ways to enforce the 14-day limit on dispersed camping stays.Īccording to Red Rock News, rangers now have an app to track the license plates of campers. The rest of the forest will be completely closed off to public camping. Beginning in late March or early April, there will be only eight designated dispersed camping areas in the entire forest with around 200 spots total. With Arizona boondocking in Coconino National Forest, the forest service is severely limiting where camping can happen in the Sedona area with what they call emergency closures. With more and more visitors, public land managers are trying to find ways to cope. The national park service is recommending that if you’re looking to visit a major national park in 2022, you might consider combining your trip with smaller, less-visited sites in the area. Forty-four parks set a record for recreation visits in 2021. Of 423 parks in the National Park System, just 25 received more than half of the total visitors. The reduction could be related to still-in-place visitor limitations at many park service facilities, especially smaller, indoor historical sites - like presidential homes - that aren’t currently offering tours. The parks received just under 300 million recreation visits last year.

Plus there are Alpacas roaming around which was really great. There is a small cabin not far from the boondock area, but with plenty of separation, but know you will be on the farm property as opposed to being far away from everything in a remote area.

When we got there and saw it and put in the gate code our reaction was, "ok this is a good sign !" and it sure was.

The boondocking site is very nice and it is easily accessible from the gravel driveway from the entrance. She came to meet us when we arrived and supplied some nice camp fire wood which was unexpected. Sara was super helpful and communicated with us. The property's location is somewhere most people wouldn't even think about camping in the area of Snowflake and Show Low, which makes it even cooler, and I've lived and camped in AZ for over 40 years. The stars are awesome and seeing the Milky Way so clearly was such a bonus. It has lots of Juniper trees and varying elevation which enhances the experience and the place to camp was wonderful. Three 65 year old guys on a long weekend trip and we loved it. What a great place! We stayed here yesterday in a Class C Sprinter RV. Sara and Jim were amazing hosts with a wealth of knowledge of the area. This was truly a memorable trip and we weren't ready to leave.

The alpacas free roam the property and are friendly, living their best life :) ! The 2 donkeys are adorable and would hang out next to the fence at our site! And 2 horses were also down by our site too.

It was beautiful and even saw some elk! Later that day, Sara invited us to help feed the animals. Many events were going on with a lot to do! On our last full day we went exploring on the OHV trails. The next day we went to Showlow which was about a 15-20 min drive. On our first evening, Sara and her husband took us on a S x S ride showing us where the OHV trails were and showed us some very cool sites! This area is OHV friendly with many trails nearby. Campsite was large and came with a firepit and picnic table. When we arrived, Jim had us follow him to our spot.

The nights are usually calm and quiet, however, the neighbor has a livestock guardian dog that occasionally barks to scare predators away.įirst time Hip Camper here! Directions were perfect.
