I don't know how Blackwing assembles these. Given the world's state, this envelope took about a month to arrive and then I tried to disassemble the sharpener. As a replacement blade is much easier to fit into an international envelope than the high cost of shipping me an entirely new sharpener, they sent me a replacement. They recommended a change of blades to fix the problem. I took a chance and emailed Blackwing support. Blackwing quickly replaced his defective unit, which sounds like it had similar issues, as I'd observed. At a US price of $19.95 and, of course, higher in Canada, this didn't feel good.Ī few months passed, when the woes of a defective pencil sharpener were the last thing on my mind when I heard a review from Brad Dowdy, The Pen Addict discussing his problems with the same sharpener on his podcast.

Laying there with some dollar store pencils, some Wopex, and a couple of Jinhao pens, this was by far the most expensive thing that I have banished to purgatory. I played around with it a while and then pushed it, unloved, to the back corner of my desk where terrible stationery products go to die. My chances of getting a pencil sharpened without breaking the graphite were slim. I quickly learned not to feed it expensive Blackwings. Which led to some of the delays in getting this working properly. The store mailed me the package, as I couldn't pick it up in person. I received the sharpener from a local store that got their shipment just as the COVID lockdowns started in March.
